Service: Stump removal · Location: Alexandria, VA 22303 · Completed: October 2025

Two old holly stumps sat on either side of the front steps of this Alexandria home. They were a tripping hazard on the way to the door and they made the entry look unfinished. They were also tight against the porch, close enough that a stump grinder could have chipped the stone steps or chewed into the foundation.
Instead of bringing in a machine, the crew excavated both stumps by hand, carefully digging out the root systems to protect the porch foundation and the surrounding landscaping. All stump material and debris were hauled off the property.
A clear, level front entry with no roots left behind, so the homeowner can replant both beds whenever they’re ready.
Most stumps come out fastest with a grinder. Hand excavation is the better call when a stump is close to steps, walls, foundations, utility lines or delicate plantings, where the vibration and flying chips of a grinder would cause more damage than the stump itself. We’ll tell you which approach fits when we look at the job.
We start every job with a free on-site visit from an ISA certified arborist and a written estimate. Call (703) 569-2570 or request your free estimate online.
