Why a Tree Company Sponsors a Little League Team in Falls Church?

If you’ve been out to a Falls Church Kiwanis Little League game this season, you may have spotted our name on the sponsor board. We’re proud to be one of the businesses backing the Falls Church Kiwanis Little League — and we wanted to take a minute to explain why a tree company decided youth baseball was worth supporting. The short version: we work in these neighborhoods every day, and we’d rather put something back into them than just take work out of them.

Sixteen years in the same neighborhoods

G&V is a family-owned company. We’ve been climbing, pruning, and removing trees across Northern Virginia for more than 25 years, and a good share of that work has been right here in Falls Church — the mature oaks along the Broad Street corridor, the tight residential lots in the City Center, the canopy that makes this place look the way it does.

When you spend that long working in one community, it stops feeling like a service area on a map. The families whose trees we care for are the same families whose kids are out at Westgate and Larry Graves on Saturday mornings. Sponsoring the league was an easy decision once we thought about it that way.

What the league actually does

Falls Church Kiwanis Little League has been part of this community since 1948 — it’s the oldest Little League in Virginia. It’s volunteer-run, it’s open to every kid who wants to play, and it runs a scholarship program so that cost is never the reason a child sits out a season.

That last part matters to us. A lot of youth programs quietly price families out. This one works hard not to — and the sponsorships from local businesses are part of what keeps registration affordable and the fields maintained. It’s a direct, visible way to support kids in the exact place we live and work.

Caring for the community the way we care for its trees

There’s a real thread connecting the two, even if it isn’t obvious at first. Our whole job is the long game. A tree that gets the right structural pruning at ten years old is a safer, healthier tree at forty. You can’t rush it, and you can’t fake it — you either invest in it early or you pay for it later.

Youth sports are the same kind of investment. The work you put in now shows up years down the road. So whether we’re out assessing a storm-damaged oak or backing a Little League team, the thinking is the same: take care of the things that take decades to grow, and the community is better for it.
